A Day Late

Fortunately, I wasn’t a dollar short. It’s always been a tradition with me that on Labor Day and Memorial Day I BBQ some pork steaks and have them with my mom’s potato salad and some baked beans. Pork steaks are one of the most popular things to BBQ in St. Louis, which is where I grew up. I have a hard time finding them here in Beautiful Dunwoody. It’s not because Beautiful Dunwoody has a large Jewish population since there are all sorts of other pork products at the store. When I see some, I buy them and freeze them.

Even when I had my place down at Lake of the Ozarks, I would spend those weekends at home. Why wouldn’t I go down to the Lake over the three day holidays of Memorial Day and Labor Day? Simple. Because the lake would be jam packed with buttheads, even as far away from the dam as my cabin was (38 miles). I was a water skier and the Lake would be rough with all of the boaters on it on those weekends. I liked to go to the Lake the week before or the week after those two holidays when no one was there and I’d have the lake pretty much to myself and the skiing would be great.

It was raining when I woke up Monday morning and it looked like it would be rotten most of the day, so I decided to have my Labor Day meal on Tuesday. It’s not like I have to go to work, being a retired SRF and all. Tuesday was a beautiful day and I even did some yard work.

Yannow, I used to be able to eat two pork steaks. Yesterday, I could only eat a half of one. Naturally, there was left over potato salad and baked beans as well so I’ll get another meal out of it. I just cannot believe how little I eat now. That still doesn’t stop me from being twenty pounds overweight.
